Orgy, just about everyone has heard of them, but does anyone really know just how many people it takes having sex all together to be termed an orgy? I’ve heard this question we are about to explore asked many times before. So, I decided to look into it, and see if I could find a definitive answer that I could share.
Let’s see if we can find the answer to the question:
How many people does it take to make an orgy?
“Technically the minimum number of people to have an orgy is two. But popular opinion says that it’s five or more. Technically there is no set number of people having sex to be considered an orgy.”
Now that you know the down and dirty answer to the question about how many people it takes to be considered an orgy, let’s look at how the answer to the question came about. Let’s dig in deeper and see if we can make the answer clearer.
What Exactly Is an Orgy?
Let’s first look at the textbook definition of what an orgy is.
In ancient times the Roman’s and Greek’s held secret ceremonial rites in honor of a deity. These ceremonial rites usually had singing and dancing. The Roman’s held these orgies in honor of Bacchus.
An orgy has also been defined as a drunken revelry, a sexual encounter that involved multiple people, and excessive indulgence in sex.
An orgy has also been defined as an out-of-control party.
If you notice, the textbook definition of an orgy never defines the number of people needed to be classified as an orgy. So, to answer our question, “How many people does it take to make an orgy?”, we are going to have to dive deeper into the subject by first looking at the different types of group sex.
Various Types of Group Sex
Let’s take a quick look at different types of group sex that are most common. Sex can even be with just a single person. But that would be classified as masturbation or self-pleasuring. So, we will skip that one.
Sex between two people is usually referred to as good old fashioned monogamous sex, or one-on-one sex. This type of group sex is the most common. But since we are talking about orgies, it would be the most boring version of sex with more than one person.
Sex between three people is commonly referred to as a threesome. Now, we are getting somewhere a little more fun. Threesomes can be between two men and one woman, two women and one man, three men, or three women. In threesomes the participants can be straight, bisexual, or just bi-curious.
Let’s add an additional person to the threesome. Sex between four people is normally referred to as a foursome. Foursomes can be between any combination of females and males totaling four. If you have three men and one woman, we are moving into the specialty group sex realm. You would most likely refer to that combination as a gangbang.
Now that we have looked at the common types of group sex, we need to go even deeper into the subject and take a look at different types of orgies.
The Different Types of Orgies
The first type of orgy I want to mention is the planned orgy. This is the typical type of orgy you may run into while living the swinger lifestyle. It’s usually planned well ahead of time. It’s usually selective about who is invited to make sure it’s a safe and enjoyable experience for all of the participants.
You can find planned orgies at on-premise swingers clubs, swinger hotel takeovers, and private swinger house parties. Most of these types of parties set up a specific place or room for the orgy.
The next type of orgy is the spontaneous orgy. This type of orgy just happens without any planning. The spontaneous orgy happens more at private swinger house parties than other places. They can still happen and do on occasion happen at on-premise swinger clubs. In this type of orgy the participants may or may not know each other.
So, Just How Many Participants Does It Take to Make an Orgy?
Now we are getting to the fun part. Here is how the initial answer to our question was determined since there is no real definitive answer.
Let’s take into account the following elements of the textbook definition of an orgy. Those being, a wild party, a drunken revelry, an excessive indulgence in sex, and a sexual encounter involving multiple people. Technically you could consider two people having sex in an environment or under conditions of the above elements to be an orgy. Note that I said technically.
Here is the twist. If you ask a lot of people how many participants does it take to make an orgy, you are going to get a wide range of numbers. So, the bottom line is there is no set number of people needed to be considered an orgy.
Now, let’s look at popular opinion. Since we have names for twosomes, threesomes, and foursomes, most people would consider an orgy needs five or more participants.
So, the bottom-line answer to our question, how many people does it take to have an orgy, is technically two or more. But popular opinion would consider an orgy to be five or more people.
